Harare headmaster arrested over exam haircut ban

A Harare headmaster and school director got arrested after they blocked nine students from taking their ZIMSEC Family and Religious Studies exam over haircut violations. Minister Torerai Moyo confirmed authorities grabbed both officials after they forced the kids to leave mid-exam and get fresh cuts before coming back, which meant the students missed the 15-minute entry window and could not sit for the paper. The pair posted bail at Mbare Magistrates Court, and their case continues later this month.

The government plans to salvage the situation by looking at how the top and bottom performers did on the first paper, then using that data to assign grades to the nine affected students. Moyo clarified that ministry policy asks for students to look presentable but does not support blocking exam access over grooming standards, and he called the school's move a violation of student rights.
