A man in Harare told a court his wife had not had sex with him for nine years. Joseph Katumba said his wife, Stella Kangara, refuses because he does not have a job.
Katumba said his wife gets violent when he tries to touch her. She screams and pushes him away. She makes him sleep on the floor.
He said this is emotional abuse. He wants a court order to protect him.
Stella said she cannot be intimate with her husband because he has no job. She said they sometimes go hungry. She does not have the energy for sex.
"I am not a sex object," she said. "I need to feel secure to feel loved."
The magistrate, Meenal Naratom, was worried about Stella's actions. She said having no job does not make abuse okay.
The court gave Joseph a protection order. It tells Stella she cannot abuse her husband. The couple was told to go to marriage counseling.
