Harare mayor seeks council skills audit to fix performance gaps

Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume wants the city council to examine worker abilities and find gaps. He announced plans for an agreement between the government and council during a recent meeting. The mayor said council needs to check if employees have the right skills for their jobs. He believes some workers cannot do what their positions require. This audit will help the council work better.

Council officials met with ministry representatives on May 20 to discuss the review process. The acting town clerk and acting human capital director attended the meeting. Ministry of Skills Audit and Development officials explained how they would conduct the examination. Both groups talked about ways to improve the workforce. The meeting showed the council wants to fix its problems.

Mafume pointed out that worker abilities do not match job needs. He said the council performs poorly because employees lack proper training. Some departments struggle more than others with this problem. The mayor believes fixing these issues will help residents. Better skilled workers can provide improved services.

The audit will identify what abilities the council needs for each job. Officials will determine where to place workers with different skills. They will also find out which departments need more training. The mayor wants to target specific areas that need improvement. This process will help match the right people with the right jobs.
