Harare's Trabablas Bridges Nearly Complete

Progress Surges at Harare's Major Building Sites

Zimbabwe's capital sees big wins in its 2025 building plans. The huge Mbudzi road project, set to be named Trabablas, has nearly finished all 15 of its bridges.

A new market space in Mbare will open next month. The site comes as welcome news after a fire struck the old market last year. When it opens on February 1, it will accommodate 5,000 sellers.

The news came during a press tour led by Information Minister Jenfan Muswere. He visited sites across Harare with local officials to check on key projects.

The Trabablas road work stands at 86 percent done. "We have built all 15 bridges up to their tops," said Engineer Kudakwashe Maguta from Fossils Contracting. His team has also laid 80 percent of the new roads.

Housing plans show strong results. The state has built 700,000 homes, far past its first goal of 220,000. Near Madokero Mall, 108 new flats rise from the ground. Progress Mambo, who runs Exodus and Company, said state workers' pension funds paid for this growth.

Real change shows in Dzivaresekwa, where 28 families found new homes. They moved from flood-risk areas in Budiriro. "The President kept his word," said Judith Muriyenda, who got a new flat. "At first, we doubted, but he came through."

The airport will also grow. Its yearly guest count will jump from 1.5 million to 6 million people, which fits with other road and bridge work across the city.

These steps mark what officials call the Second Republic's push for growth. More tours will spread across other areas to show what's being built. The goal stays clear: to lift Zimbabwe into an upper middle-income country through better buildings and roads.
