Harvey's Illuminati defense fails, trial proceeds

A judge ruled on Wednesday that Andre Lamont Harvey is mentally competent to stand trial on felony charges of spousal abuse and assault. Judge Andrew Kendall scheduled a preliminary hearing for Oct. 10 after determining that the 35-year-old brother of rapper Blueface can proceed with criminal proceedings. Harvey appeared in court wearing paper garments issued to inmates on suicide watch.

Bakersfield police arrested Harvey on March 7 after his wife reported that he had accused her of infidelity and then physically attacked her while she lay in bed with their 4-year-old daughter. Officers documented facial swelling, bruises, and neck marks consistent with her account of being punched, kicked, and choked. A neighbor intervened and contacted authorities after the woman fled outside for help.

Police located Harvey on Hageman Road east of Patton Way after he left the scene in his wife's vehicle. Court documents indicate Harvey told officers that his wife and the Illuminati planned to kill him because of his relationship with his younger brother.
