A village headman got murdered during a traditional court hearing in Namibia. Sam Nepando, the headman of Onelago village, was killed by gunfire at a community court session in Iikokola village within the Oshikoto region. Iikokola village headman and National Planning Commission executive director I-Ben Nashandi was seriously injured in the same shooting, confirmed by regional police commander commissioner Ndeshipanda Iifo.
The Ondonga Traditional Authority stated the attack happened during a lawful dispute resolution meeting under customary law. A known party involved in the case allegedly opened fire on the leaders while they performed their duties. The authority condemned the violence as a shocking assault on the customary justice system and a senseless act, mourning Nepando as a dedicated young leader.
Nashandi remains hospitalized in stable condition, according to attorney general Festus Mbandeka, a family friend.
