Herbert Mensah Says Otumfuo Should Not Fund Asante Kotoko

Former Asante Kotoko Chairman Herbert Mensah says the Asantehene should not pay for club operations. Mensah made these remarks after team officials presented their FA Cup trophy to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at Manhyia Palace on Wednesday. The Rugby Africa President spoke for the traditional ruler during the ceremony. He told the team they must reach the World Club Championship and restore past glory. Mensah stressed that Otumfuo has already contributed enough money to the club.

The former chairman explained that current leaders must find their resources. He called managing Kotoko both an honor and a privilege for those who take charge. Mensah ran the club from 1999 to 2003 and remains one of their most respected former leaders. His words came after Kotoko won the 2024/25 FA Cup with a victory over Golden Kick. The triumph secured their place in next season's CAF Confederation Cup tournament representing Ghana.
