Highlanders held to a goalless draw by Kwekwe United

Highlanders fans watched their team struggle again as the club failed to score for three matches running. The Bulawayo giants could not beat last-place Kwekwe United at Bata Stadium on Sunday. Players dominated the game but wasted chance after chance against a team fighting relegation. Coach Try Ncube watched his forwards miss easy opportunities throughout the match. The frustrating draw left supporters shaking their heads at another poor performance.

Never Rauzhi had the best early chance but shot the ball over the crossbar when through on goal. Kwekwe United stayed organized and made life difficult for the visiting attackers. The home team threatened occasionally on quick counter-attacks during the first half. Takudzwa Chimhowa forced goalkeeper Reward Muza into making a save midway through the opening period. Both teams went to the break without finding the back of the net.

The second half brought more of the same as Highlanders pressed forward without success. Substitute Reason Sibanda thought he deserved a penalty after going down inside the box. Referee officials waved away his appeals and play continued with Kwekwe still defending well. Nqobile Ndlovu missed a golden opportunity when he headed wide from close range. Andile Taruvinga cleared another Sibanda header off the goal line near the final whistle.

Kwekwe United almost stole victory at the death but Muza produced two brilliant saves. The point moved Highlanders up to ninth place with 24 points from their matches. Kwekwe coach Masimba Dinyero praised his young players for their determined display. The result gives the struggling team hope for better performances ahead. Ncube admitted his side created plenty of chances but failed to convert them once more.
