Hytale revived for early access, original creator leads charge

The Minecraft competitor just got yanked back from the dead after Riot killed it off earlier this year and shut down the entire studio. Original creator Simon Collins-Laflamme bought back the rights and plans to drop an early-access version next month with a skeleton crew running off a four-year-old prototype build.

The dev straight-up told people not to preorder because the launch state will be super rough and buggy since they had to merge hundreds of code branches just to get something playable. The team ditched whatever new engine Riot was forcing them to use and went back to the original vision from their 2018 announcement trailer.

They rehired around 40 people after the shutdown and admit the first impression will suck, but the creator says he's personally funding development for years while they patch things together. The whole revival happened within weeks of reacquiring the IP from a major publisher, which rarely happens.
