India's Asia Cup trophy snub humiliates Naqvi

Former England spinner Monty Panesar said India's refusal to accept the Asia Cup trophy from Pakistani officials overshadowed their ninth continental title. The champion team declined to participate in the traditional handshake ceremony and left without collecting the main trophy after defeating Pakistan on Sunday. Asian Cricket Council chair Mohsin Naqvi removed the championship silverware from the field after Indian players accepted only their individual awards.

Panesar told IANS that sports and politics should remain separate, but teams retain the right to make such decisions. He suggested India should consider creating a Southern Hemisphere tournament with Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa to generate stronger competition. The presentation ceremony controversy stemmed from ongoing political tensions between India and Pakistan, but Panesar emphasized that India's dominant cricket performance speaks for itself.
