Intel boss admits blunders, bets big on AI

Intel’s chief executive officer, Lip-Bu Tan, has acknowledged that the company made costly errors in the past and missed significant industry shifts. Since assuming leadership, he has initiated a restructuring to flatten the management hierarchy and instill a more aggressive posture in artificial intelligence and consumer computing. Tan expressed optimism about Intel’s future, emphasizing its importance to the global technology landscape and national security.

The company’s revised strategy involves calculated investments in new areas, including the XPU segment and a partnership with NVIDIA to develop x86 intellectual property. Tan is now personally directing Intel’s artificial intelligence strategy, which includes an annual product release cycle. He also highlighted the goal of building Intel Foundry Services into a technologically resilient operation for the global AI supply chain.

Despite this renewed focus, Tan cautioned that Intel’s recovery is a long-term endeavor. He indicated that substantial progress would require a sustained effort over many months or even years.
