Intel Boss Tosses Old Playbook for Chip Circus

Intel just got a fresh start with Lip-Bu Tan at the helm. He wrote to stockholders about his plan to shake things up at the company. Tan has made listening to customers his top focus since day one. He wants Intel to act faster and work smarter to help their clients succeed.

Tan promised that the talk would be over and that action would begin right away. The leadership team has already started changing the work culture. Tan will keep pushing for faster moves and smarter work to make Intel more competitive. The new boss talked about the upcoming Panther Lake chips set to arrive later this year.

Past rumors claimed that Panther Lake-H laptop chips might face delays until 2026 because of problems with the 18A manufacturing process. An Intel leader shot down these claims a few weeks back. The company did cause some confusion when its China office mentioned a full product release in early 2026. They plan to start sending test samples to computer makers around October.

Tan sees big growth coming for Intel in AI computers, following plans already put in motion by previous leadership. He said they will boost their position with Panther Lake in late 2025, made using the Intel 18A process. Nova Lake will follow in 2026. Despite what critics said about 18A problems, Tan painted a bright picture for investors.

He checked on 18A's progress early after joining Intel and claims it looks good. Besides Panther Lake, they will soon finish design work on early 18A projects for outside customers. The first factory production should begin mid-year. The report did not mention new Arc graphics cards. Recent buzz suggests Intel might have canceled plans for their higher-performance B-series GPU products.
