Intel Names New AI Chief as CEO Lip-Bu Tan Reshapes Leadership

Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan changed how the company runs its AI business. He created a new AI chief job to strengthen Intel's computer chip section. The company needs these major changes because many parts of Intel have had poor results lately. After Pat Gelsinger left as CEO, Tan warned he would make hard choices that might hurt things short term.

Tan flattened Intel's leadership structure. The data center groups will report directly to him instead of the Product's CEO, Michelle Johnston Holthaus. Sachin Katti became both chief technology officer and artificial intelligence chief. Tan told his team he wants to work closely with engineers to improve their solutions.

These changes happened because Intel's AI business performs much worse than its competitors. The company missed early chances during the AI boom. Their Gaudi AI chips failed to compete well against NVIDIA or AMD products. Tan hopes taking direct control will turn things around.

The Trump administration recently blocked Intel from selling new hardware to China, further limiting Intel's business opportunities. People wonder how Tan will fix Intel's AI problems with these export restrictions in place. The new CEO seems ready to take strong action.
