A journalism intern on the run for over a year got busted for stealing a government laptop. Police in Chipinge arrested Livingstone Mtetwa, a 28-year-old who was doing his industrial attachment with the information ministry, accusing him of taking a laptop from a district office back in May of last year. According to police spokesperson Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, Mtetwa fled to Mozambique after the alleged theft and sold the computer to some random person in the city of Chimoio. He was finally caught at his home after a tip-off led officers to him.
The suspect apparently admitted to stealing and selling the device while he was hiding out. Authorities are reminding everyone, including people in the media, to follow the law and not take stuff that is not theirs. The laptop's owner, District Information Officer Zaine Dube, has been notified, and Mtetwa is waiting for a court date.
