iPhone 16 Pro Max mods its way past Apple’s new battery king

A YouTuber managed to fit a larger battery into an iPhone 16 Pro Max, surpassing the capacity of the newer iPhone 17 Pro Max. The channel DirectorFeng demonstrated the modification, swapping the original 4,685mAh cell for a third-party 5,142mAh unit from a manufacturer called SEFU. The physical dimensions of the upgraded battery were nearly identical, allowing it to fit inside the phone without any apparent issues.

After installing the new component and running several charge cycles, the device showed one hundred percent battery health. This DIY upgrade results in a capacity increase of almost ten percent over the stock configuration. It also technically beats the 5,088mAh battery reported for the upcoming eSIM model of the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

The video did not compare the modified phone's endurance against current flagship models. Apple's newer phones have historically excelled in battery tests due to efficiency gains, not just raw capacity. The YouTuber plans to conduct longer-term reliability tests on the modded device. This project shows it is physically possible to extend the life of older iPhones through part swaps, though it requires technical skill and voids any warranty. Future iPhone models like the rumored foldable device are already expected to feature even larger batteries from the factory.
