Joel Gabbuza Fights for Life After Axe Rage

Former Cabinet Minister Joel Gabbuza fights for his life at Mpilo Central Hospital after a brutal attack Friday night. Two men armed with an axe and knife attacked him at his mistress's home in Binga. Police Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident happened at a woman's homestead in Tinde, Ward 18. The attackers left Gabbuza with serious head and hand injuries during what witnesses called a wild assault. One suspect appears to be the woman's jealous ex-boyfriend who blamed Gabbuza for their breakup.

The attack took place at a homestead in Siamakwa Village where Gabbuza was spending the night with his long-time mistress. The main attacker and his accomplice first slashed the tires on Gabbuza's car before storming into the house under cover of darkness. The two men burst into the bedroom and stabbed the former Water Resources Minister more than a dozen times. Sources say the suspect never accepted being rejected and saw Gabbuza as the reason behind his failed relationship. The attackers fled after the violent assault left Gabbuza bleeding heavily.

Medical staff rushed Gabbuza over 200 kilometers to Hwange Colliery Hospital for emergency treatment. Doctors later moved him to Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo for specialized care. The former minister remains in critical condition as of Monday. Police continue investigating the assault case. The attack has shocked the local community where such violent incidents are uncommon.
