The Commission made clear on Friday that it did not send out any news about these court appointments. Maria Theresa Nabulya, who speaks for the Commission, asked people not to believe what they read in news outlets.
These news stories had said President Museveni picked Justice Flavian Zeija as the new Deputy Chief Justice. The reports claimed Zeija would take over from Richard Buteera, who plans to leave his job in May. Zeija has been leading the High Court as Principal Judge.
The stories also said Justice Muzamil Mutangula Kibeedi would join the Supreme Court. He would fill the seat of Justice Esther Kisaakye. The reports named other judges for the Court of Appeal and High Court jobs.
The Commission pointed to its official ways of sharing news, including its X account and website. It also sends letters with official headings. "Any news not shared through these paths should not be trusted," the Commission said.
