The Judicial Service Commission, or JSC, has reacted to concerns from the Commission on Administrative Justice, or CAJ. CAJ was not happy with how JSC handles complaints against judges and other court workers.
CAJ sent a letter on December 23. It said JSC was not being clear enough, handling complaints poorly, and not sharing important facts and numbers.
But JSC says CAJ got it wrong. On Tuesday, JSC replied and said its yearly reports follow the rules in the Constitution. JSC pointed out that Article 254 says what has to be in the reports.
"JSC wants to politely explain some things that were not quite right in CAJ's letter," JSC said. "JSC has always put out a lot of details about complaints in its reports. It talks about what kind of complaints, how many there were, and what happened with them. The Constitution says JSC has to do this."
The reports can be found on JSC's website. The State of the Judiciary and Administration of Justice reports, which are also available on the Judiciary's website each year, have even more information.
JSC also said it has worked extensively with CAJ. They are both part of the Constitutional Commissions and Independent Offices Forum, or CCIOs.
The two groups worked together recently on some new rules. The rules are called the Draft Judicial Service Regulations. They are about how to handle petitions and complaints. The public is giving their thoughts on the rules right now.
JSC shared a link so people can read the draft rules for themselves.
JSC thinks respect and teamwork are very important. All the Constitutional Commissions have hard jobs, and they need to work together to get things done.
That's why JSC was not thrilled that CAJ gave them an order on social media. JSC pointed to parts of the Constitution that say JSC is its boss. Article 249 says JSC is free to do its job without anyone telling it what to do.
"JSC needs this freedom to do what it's supposed to do fairly," JSC said.
JSC promised to always be clear, responsible, and follow the law. It wants CAJ and others to work well with JSC. Everyone should respect each other and the Constitution.
