A Kabale University Kiswahili assistant lecturer died Thursday afternoon in a highway crash that injured thirteen others. Innocent Agaba, who taught at Kyogo Secondary School, lost his life when a Toyota Hiace overturned multiple times on the Kabale-Mbarara highway. Police identified Agaba as a resident of Kakuga Village in Rukiga District.
The accident happened around 2:30 PM near Kabaraga Village, past the fresh food station. Seven men and six women suffered critical injuries but remain unidentified. The driver fled the scene after losing control of the white van, registration UBL 327 M.
"He taught us in the morning, but in the afternoon he was dead," said one university student. Police spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed that ASP Mucunguzi's team investigated the crash site. Officials transported Agaba's body to Kabale Hospital mortuary for examination.
The injured victims received treatment at the same hospital. Police towed the vehicle wreckage for inspection. Initial reports indicate excessive speed caused the deadly accident. The van was traveling from Kabale toward Mbarara when it crashed.
