Kajang toll crash kills second victim as probe drags on

A civil servant died on Sunday from injuries sustained in a Sept. 27 crash at the Bukit Kajang Toll Plaza, and authorities raised the accident's death toll to two people. Kajang police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said the 48-year-old man died at 11 a.m. at Hospital Kajang after treatment in the intensive care unit, and investigators will release the body to relatives after completing an autopsy.

The collision occurred when a lorry carrying scrap iron from Semenyih to Putrajaya experienced brake failure, and the driver lost control before striking three other vehicles at the toll plaza. The crash killed a 16-month-old boy immediately, and seven others suffered injuries in the four-vehicle pileup. Police released the 42-year-old lorry driver on bail after recording statements from all parties, but Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said investigators await technical expert reports before proceeding. The Land Public Transport Agency revoked the lorry company's operating license.
