Kano on Warpath to Crush New Polio Threat

Kano State wants to stop new polio diseases across all 44 local areas before December 2025 ends. Dr Muhammad Nasiru runs the Primary Health Care Board and promises health workers will focus on problem spots. Ungogo Local Government has many people who refuse vaccines and security troubles block vaccination teams in Sumaila, Doguwa, Kunchi and Tsanyawa areas. Four new polio cases appeared at Bunkure, Warawa and Kano Municipal locations.

The state starts vaccination drives from June 14 to 18 at Bunkure Local Government first. All children under five years old will receive the vaccine shots during both campaign rounds. All 19 northern states will join the vaccination push to meet Nigeria's December target date.

UNICEF demands Kano State declare an emergency about these new polio types right away. The organization says state officials must release money faster and share correct vaccine information with families. Chief Rahama Rihood Muhammad Farah from UNICEF wants government leaders to fight false stories about the disease. Religious leaders and local government workers must work together to make the vaccination program succeed across the state.
