Katsande backs Musona, Billiat for AFCON

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande sparked widespread debate after advocating for veterans Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat to represent Zimbabwe at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The 10-year Chiefs player posted his views on the social media platform X on Friday, Oct. 24, 2025, arguing that both players possess valuable tournament experience. His message attracted more than 20,000 views and divided supporters between those who favored experienced players and those who preferred younger talent.

Musona remains Zimbabwe's leading international scorer at age 35 and recently contributed goals in World Cup qualifying matches. Billiat has struggled to regain his previous form since moving to Scotland earlier this year, despite past success with Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs. Some fans suggested Musona could provide leadership in limited appearances while others rejected both veterans entirely. Critics noted younger players like Munetsi, Hadebe and Nakamba offer sufficient experience for the tournament.

Zimbabwe faces Egypt, South Africa and Angola in Group B from Dec. 22 through Dec. 29, 2025. The top two teams from each group advance, along with the four best third-place finishers, under tournament regulations.
