Kebbi governor signs N642.9B budget heavy on capital spend

Governor Nasir Idris signed off on Kebbi State's 2026 budget, a massive 642.9 billion naira plan. He got the bill from the assembly speaker, Usman Muhammad-Zuru, at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi. The governor praised the lawmakers for passing it quickly.

The budget splits spending into two main parts. Roughly 163 billion is for recurrent expenses like salaries. The larger chunk, about 479 billion, is for capital projects. The governor admitted this total represents expected money, not cash in hand. He emphasized the need to boost the state's own revenue streams beyond federal handouts.

Both the governor and the speaker promised continued cooperation between the executive and legislative branches. They called the budget's signing a key step for the state's development, following legislative review. The focus remains on funding projects despite financial constraints.
