Kenya Calls for Unity as Refugee Numbers Keep Climbing

Kenya has raised serious alarm about the growing number of refugees streaming from the Horn of Africa. At a recent diplomatic meeting, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi called for united efforts to tackle the displacement crisis and help those most vulnerable.

Addressing the ongoing conflict in Sudan, Mudavadi emphasized Kenya's neutral stance. The government wants to support peaceful solutions without picking sides. Kenya aims to facilitate dialogue and work constructively with all parties involved to find a sustainable resolution to the regional tensions.

Mudavadi also appealed to regional and international partners to collaborate closely with the joint East Africa Community and Southern Africa Development Community. Their shared mission centers on resolving the complex humanitarian challenges affecting the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.

According to the United Nations refugee agency, UNHCR, Kenya currently shelters over 800,000 refugees. This substantial number reflects the country's significant role in providing sanctuary for people fleeing conflict and instability across the region. The government continues to demonstrate commitment to humanitarian support despite the considerable challenges such large-scale refugee hosting presents.
