Kenyan Cubers Dominate Finals at Legacy Twist 2025 in Nairobi

Kenyan speed cubers took top honors at the World Cubing Association's Kenya Legacy Twist 2025 tournament Saturday. The competition took place at Parklands in Nairobi. Competitors came from Kenya, South Africa, India and Japan. The event featured multiple puzzle-solving categories. Several national records fell during the tournament.

Derick Bundi captured first place in the main 3x3x3 cube event. He completed his solves with an average time of 12.39 seconds. His fastest single solve reached 9.98 seconds. Mathias Ile from Kenya finished second with a 12.48-second average. Yukinobu Tsukioka from Japan earned third place.

Imani Ritho dominated the 2x2x2 cube competition with a 4.65-second average. Her best solve of 2.41 seconds marked a personal record. She praised the growth of cubing in Kenya. The athlete called speed cubing a nerve-stretching activity. She advised other competitors to stay calm during events.

Eman Kabiru made history in the Megaminx category. His average time of 1 minute and 18.89 seconds set a new national record. His fastest solve of 1 minute and 11.06 seconds became the quickest time ever recorded for a Kenyan. Kabiru also won the Skewb competition. Kyle Punguh Misigo claimed victory in Pyraminx with a 5.89-second average.

Organizer Kelvin Githiari wants to expand participation in future tournaments. He hopes to attract more people to competitive cubing in Kenya. The event awarded certificates to all podium finishers across every category.
