Kenya's Charlene Ruto, Ochora settle Beyond the Name saga

President William Ruto's daughter Charlene has ended her legal battle against author Webster Ochora Eliah through a private agreement. The two parties resolved their conflict over Eliah's unauthorized biography titled Beyond the Name. Charlene had filed charges alleging impersonation, copyright violations, and commercial misuse of her identity. The settlement follows Constitutional provisions that promote alternative dispute resolution methods. Eliah provided a formal apology that Charlene accepted as part of the resolution.

The agreement prevents Eliah from future publication, distribution, or sale of rights related to the book. Any violation allows Charlene to pursue financial compensation through civil courts. The case numbered MCCR No. 314 of 2025 was formally dismissed on Monday at Milimani Magistrate's Court. Proceedings will conclude on October 6 with final administrative closure. Legal experts believe this case may influence future disputes over unauthorized biographical works in Kenya.
