KNUT Leaders Chat With Gov on Education Future

KNUT leaders from 21 branches across Nyanza met with Interior PS Raymond Omollo last Sunday in Kisumu. They discussed education issues, governance, and how to develop better leadership. The gathering allowed teachers and government officials to collaborate on ways to improve schools throughout Kenya.

Omollo told the teachers they could become more than just union members. He pushed them to learn about running organizations, managing people, and serving the public. Teachers shape our future beyond just classrooms—they often become important leaders themselves, he explained. Many teachers later serve as lawmakers, senators, governors, and other big decision-makers.

The group discussed what President Ruto has done for schools, including hiring 76,000 new teachers during his first two years. Omollo pointed out problems in cities like Nairobi, where school buildings struggle to fit all students. He said the government wants to help these crowded areas and other places that need extra support.

Omollo praised teachers for helping students perform better and for adapting to the new Competency-Based Curriculum. He promised the government would keep listening to everyone involved in education. The PS said he would support teacher welfare and encouraged KNUT leaders to use government programs that help build skills and improve communities.

Both sides agreed they need to keep talking regularly to fix problems and make lasting improvements. The PS promised to push for policies that help teachers do their jobs better. KNUT leaders said they would work with government agencies to improve education across Kenya. MP Elisha Odhiambo, MCA George Omamba, and many other officials attended the meeting.
