Justice Abiodun Ayodele Adebara from Kwara State let 16 people walk out of jail after checking out the Okekura and Mandala lockups. The chief judge freed some folks who had been rotting away with no trial, others dealing with health problems, and a few who barely had charges that made sense.
The whole point was clearing out overpacked facilities and making sure the system actually works as it should. Adebara told everyone involved in criminal justice to get their act together and stop letting people sit in cells forever while waiting for their day in court.
The corrections boss thanked the judge for showing up and cutting people loose, then told the freed inmates to stay out of trouble and not end up back behind bars.
