Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu asked future pilgrims from his state to check their health status before they travel for the 2025 Hajj. He shared this advice during the Eid-el-Fitr party at Lagos House in Marina on Tuesday. The First Family of Lagos State joined with the Ministry of Home Affairs to host this celebration.
"The pilgrimage to Mecca starts in May. Everyone planning to go must make sure their body is healthy. Anyone feeling sick should stay back in Nigeria and pray from here instead," the Governor said. Sanwo-Olu also praised Muslims for finishing Ramadan successfully. He thanked them for bringing spiritual renewal and growth to their community. He asked everyone to help poor people during the holiday season.
"When we celebrate, we need to think about what real worship means beyond just following rules. It relates to how we interact with each other and help our state and country move forward. Let's build up our faith in Nigeria and keep praying," Sanwo-Olu added. Dr. Munirudeen Ar-Riyardy from the Lagos State University of Education spoke at the event as a guest. He stressed how important faith becomes when life gets hard. He warned people about sin and asked Nigerians not to speak badly about their leaders.
The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, asked residents to show more care and understanding. "Be nice to people living next door, try to see things from their view, and always trust God will help us," he said. Mr. Ibrahim Layode, who serves as Commissioner for Home Affairs, pushed Muslims to practice Islamic values every day. He said these values help create peace, unity, and friendly relationships in the community.
