Lawyer Jallow blames memory lapse for testimony on Jammeh's assets

Former Companies Registrar Alieu Jallow denied awareness of a High Court directive when he testified before parliamentary investigators Tuesday. The July 2017 order granted him authority over additional assets belonging to former President Yahya Jammeh. Lawmakers questioned how Jallow managed properties listed in the court directive without knowledge of its existence. He maintained that earlier instructions from superiors guided his actions rather than the specific legal document.

Committee members challenged Jallow's explanations after discovering contradictions in his written submission. The former registrar acknowledged errors in his statement and admitted forgetting correspondence details until reviewing documents during the hearing. His testimony raises concerns about communication between government agencies and document management protocols. The parliamentary committee continues investigating asset disposal procedures following recommendations from the Janneh Commission investigation into Jammeh-era financial irregularities.
