Layoffs Hit Vampire Bloodlines 2 Developer, Release Still Set for October

The Chinese Room lost several workers after publisher Paradox Interactive confirmed recent job cuts at the video game studio. Former employees posted messages on LinkedIn announcing they had lost their positions. At least nine people confirmed their dismissal from the company. The total number of workers affected remains unknown. Game Developer first reported the layoffs after spotting the social media posts.

Paradox Interactive told PC Gamer that work on Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 continues despite the staff reductions. The publisher said the game will still launch in October as planned. Company officials wished the affected workers success in future jobs. The statement emphasized that development remains on track for the planned release date. Paradox wants to reassure fans about the game's progress.

Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 has faced a difficult development process since its 2019 announcement. Hardsuit Labs originally worked on the project before The Chinese Room took control in 2021. The game nearly faced cancellation during the transition between studios. The Chinese Room has worked on the title alongside other projects like Still Wakes The Deep. These layoffs represent another challenge in the game's troubled history.

Paradox described the game as complete earlier this year. The studio focuses on fixing bugs and improving performance before the October launch. No specific release date has been announced for the highly anticipated sequel. Fans have waited years for the follow-up to the original game. The final product will determine whether the long development time was worthwhile.
