Lillian Wacera held after tossing kids into River Mathioya

Sadness has filled Kaweru village in Murang’a county after a 24-year-old woman is said to have thrown her two young children into the River Mathioya. The children were seven and one years old. Police have named the woman as Lillian Wacera and placed her in custody. She will face murder charges.

The bodies of both children were found through joint work by the police and local people. One was recovered on Wednesday evening and the other early on Thursday. A relative, Nahason Mwangi, said he heard the news at 5 a.m. and told the rest of the family.

Another relative, Thomas Kimotho, said the family was shocked and had no idea the mother struggled with mental health. She had come from Samburu, saying her father was sick, but that turned out not to be true. The family now asks for public and government help as they deal with the loss.
