Liverpool star Diogo Jota was speeding, Spanish police reveal

Liverpool star Diogo Jota died alongside his brother Andre after their car crashed on a Spanish highway. The football player was driving when the deadly accident happened last Thursday around half past midnight. Spanish police say the 28-year-old was speeding way above the legal limit on the A-52 motorway near Zamora. His younger brother Andre was just 26 years old when both men lost their lives instantly. The vehicle burst into flames after leaving the road during the horrific crash.

Police investigators believe Jota tried to overtake another car when disaster struck. The tire exploded and sent the speeding vehicle careering off the highway. Both brothers died at the scene before emergency crews could reach them. The Portugal international was heading from his home country to catch a ferry back to England. Officers are still examining tire marks and other evidence from the crash site.

Jota had been traveling to Santander port to board a ship bound for England. The deadly journey ended tragically on the Spanish motorway during the early morning hours. Police reports confirm the car caught fire immediately after impact. Experts continue preparing their final investigation report for the local court. Family and friends buried both brothers last Saturday near Porto at Gondomar cemetery.
