A top Ugandan cop says a messy family feud has nothing to do with him. The Director of Criminal Investigations, Assistant Inspector General Tom Magambo, flatly denied any link to a property dispute between educationist Prof. Badru Kateregga and his wife, Jolly Shubaiha Kateregga. His name had been circulating in connection with the case. The Uganda Police Force issued a statement clarifying its role. They said the dispute was reported in November 2024 and investigated under file CID HQRS/GEF 306/204. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions later advised it was a civil matter about property, not a criminal one, and told police not to get involved.
Magambo gave a personal response, saying he saw his name dragged into the fight on WhatsApp groups. He stated he has never met Professor Kateregga or his wife in his life. He pointed to the police spokesperson's earlier briefing, which said the issue should go through the civil courts. Magambo stressed his directorate has no power to intervene in such disputes and told people to ignore the rumors. He ended by asking the public to focus on national development instead of misinformation. The police statement had earlier emphasized they could only act on a valid court order regarding the property and reaffirmed their commitment to impartial law enforcement.
