President John Dramani Mahama ordered the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat to create special programs for Muslim students. The new initiative helps students who want to study law, computer technology, medicine, engineering and social sciences. Mahama announced the plan during Friday's Eid al-Adha celebration at Accra. He said the program shows his government's promise to help all groups of people. The scholarships will help more Muslims contribute to national development.
Mahama also revealed plans to change how Ghana runs its schools across the country. The current system has the Ghana Education Service managing schools from the capital city. Mass teacher assignments come from Accra under the present arrangement. Mahama believes moving control to district offices will work better. Local management should make school operations more efficient for students and teachers.
