Mahindra rides the Navratri rush as SUV sales explode

Mahindra and Mahindra Limited reported September automobile sales of 100,298 vehicles, representing 16 percent annual growth. The manufacturer saw utility vehicle domestic sales reach 56,233 units with a 10 percent increase, while commercial vehicle sales climbed 18 percent to 26,728 units. Customer demand surged during the Navratri festivities, as SUV retail transactions increased by more than 60 percent and commercial vehicle purchases rose by over 70 percent during the first nine festival days.

CEO Nalinikanth Gollagunta attributed the strong performance to the implementation of GST 2.0 and accumulated consumer demand ahead of the holiday period. The company exported 4,320 vehicles during September, marking a 43 percent year-over-year jump. The three-wheeler segment saw sales of 13,017 units in the domestic market, representing a 30 percent growth. Mahindra noted trailer shortages during the final 10 days of September slightly affected SUV shipment volumes.
