The local government is basically begging the new Maisha Bottlers factory to hire neighborhood kids instead of outsiders because Minister Nadir Abdullatif Al-Wardy claimed during the grand opening in the Urban District that these big-money projects need to actually help regular families pay their bills. The official visited the site at Muembe Makumbi as part of the massive celebration for the sixty-second anniversary of the Zanzibar Revolution and he argued that having more factories like this one is proof that the economy is finally changing for the better. Al-Wardy told the youth who actually land a gig at the plant to stop slacking and show some discipline, while he thanked the top leadership for making it easier for people with cash to start businesses on the island.
The boss of the investment authority, named Saleh Saad Mohammed, mentioned that they have registered five hundred eighty-eight projects lately and dozens of those are industrial spots like this one. He noted that they are even changing the rules to make it even simpler for more companies to set up shop. The guy behind the factory, named Mohammed Mohammed, said the project cost about ten million dollars and they already have a hundred people working there, with most being locals.
The plant currently cranks out twenty cartons every single day but they are only running one production line right now, while two more should be ready by the time March rolls around. Experts are supposed to show up soon to finish setting everything up so the place can hit its full potential. The owner mentioned that the state has been super helpful since they signed the deal to get this whole thing off the ground.
