Makandiwa calls out fake prophets in a sermon

During a recent United Family International Church service, Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa made indirect criticisms of fellow religious leaders who claim persecution for their self-created problems. He stated that some individuals manipulate their congregations by portraying themselves as victims to evade accountability for their actions. Makandiwa clarified that such behavior does not constitute persecution but is instead the conduct of a dishonest person.

These remarks were widely interpreted as targeting Prophet Walter Magaya of PHD Ministries, who is currently detained. Magaya was arrested on November 1, 2025, and faces multiple charges, including rape and fraud. From custody, he communicated to his followers that his ordeal was a spiritual test necessary for their growth.

Concurrently, the Zimbabwe Republic Police has expanded its international investigation into the matter. Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that new global reporting channels have been established for potential victims in several countries, including South Africa and the United Kingdom. The police also issued a warning against any interference with their ongoing work.
