Malawi's Ngwira dangles 1k grad slots as Mutharika wins

Malawian entrepreneur Kondwani Kachamba Ngwira confirms his commitment to award 1,000 scholarships to students seeking advanced degrees following Arthur Peter Mutharika's electoral success on September 16. The Democratic Progressive Party candidate defeated incumbent Lazarus Chakwera of the Malawi Congress Party, according to projections. Ngwira plans to launch the program within three months of the announcement of victory. The businessman stated on Facebook that his promise remains authentic and free from deception.

The scholarships will target students pursuing Master's and doctoral programs at universities ranked within the global top 500. Most awards will provide complete tuition coverage, while others offer partial funding based on academic merit and chosen field of study. Malawian institutions currently rank around 3,300 globally, making this opportunity significant for local students. Online options will cater to working professionals who wish to advance their education while continuing their employment. Officials are developing implementation frameworks with relevant authorities before releasing additional program details.
