Man and nephew succumbed to looted Mpumalanga biscuits

The scariest snack run turned into a tragedy after two people reportedly became sick from biscuits taken during a shop raid in Mpumalanga. A South African man and his four-year-old nephew later died after the incident.

Police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo said the shopkeeper, a foreign national, had moved supplies into a landlord’s house after hearing about attacks on similar stores. The landlord and child allegedly ate some biscuits before becoming dizzy and vomiting.

Investigators are still checking where the biscuits came from and what caused the deaths through post-mortem tests. Authorities warned communities against consuming items taken during looting because the condition and safety of those products cannot be confirmed.
