A court judge sent a young man to prison for three years after he tried to rape a female student. Raji Ridwan is 25 years old and must serve his sentence with hard labor. The case happened at Ila-Orangun Chief Magistrate Court on Friday. Magistrate Ibukun Adeniran made the final decision. Security officers from Osun Amotekun Corps caught Ridwan earlier.
The attack took place at Federal University of Science when Ridwan broke into the women's dorm. He went after a student who was alone in her room during nighttime hours. The brave young woman fought back and screamed for help. Other students and people nearby heard her cries and rushed over to save her. Ridwan ran away but police found him close to the campus.
Officers questioned Ridwan and he admitted what he did wrong. The court heard his confession through a police investigator who worked the case. Another person also spoke up to support what the victim said happened. Ridwan said he was guilty when the judge asked him. His actions broke state criminal law Section 359.
The judge wants this punishment to stop other people from doing similar crimes. Osun Amotekun spokesman Yusuf Idowu Abass praised the court decision on Saturday. He said the state will never accept sexual attacks against women. His team works with police and courts to catch criminals. The group also thanked local people who helped rescue the student during her dangerous situation.
