Manchester City fined £1 million for breaching Premier League rules

Manchester City will pay a £1 million fine after breaking Premier League punctuality rules nine times. The club accepted the punishment for repeatedly failing to start matches on time during the 2024-25 season. City finished third place that year, ending their streak of four consecutive league titles. The team currently competes at the Club World Cup under manager Pep Guardiola.

Premier League Rule L.33 requires teams to begin games and second halves promptly. Clubs face increasing penalties for each violation they commit. City paid £40,000 for their first offense but their ninth breach cost them £190,000. The fines add up to the seven-figure total that officials agreed upon with the Manchester club.
