Manik and Tipu Munshi snared in ACC tax hunt

A Dhaka court authorized the seizure of income tax records belonging to former Appellate Division judge AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik and six additional individuals as anti-corruption investigators examine allegations of illicit wealth accumulation. Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz approved the action following separate applications submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission targeting the retired jurist along with ex-minister Tipu Munshi, his spouse Irene Malabika Munshi, former state minister Md Shahriar Alam, Dr Md Enamur Rahman, former lawmaker Md Mujibul Haque and Golam Faruk Khondaker Prince.

Investigators are scrutinizing claims that the accused amassed assets illegally through abuse of authority and corrupt practices while potentially laundering funds. Commission petitions stated that accessing tax documentation through the most recent fiscal period remains essential for completing their inquiry into the financial activities of all seven subjects.
