Mbui cries betrayal as Gachagua backs rival in Mbeere North

Duncan Mbui launched accusations against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua regarding the Mbeere North by-election campaigns. The former Democracy for the Citizens Party aspirant alleges Gachagua transferred support to Democratic Party candidate Newton Karish without prior notification. Mbui claims he invested millions promoting DCP before party leadership abandoned his candidacy through zoning arrangements. The politician has since aligned with Chama Cha Kazi under Moses Kuria's leadership. He maintains confidence about winning the seat despite the setback.

Gachagua defended the decision during a National Executive Council meeting in Nairobi on Wednesday. He emphasized that opposition unity requires strategic sacrifices for the 2027 presidential race against William Ruto. The former deputy president described the arrangement with Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi as essential for presenting a unified candidate. Muturi had previously warned against forcing Mount Kenya parties into single political entities. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission scheduled by-elections for November 27 across multiple constituencies.
