MEC in Meltdown Over 305 Blurry Voter Photos

The Malawi Electoral Commission found problems with voter photos at several registration centers. MEC head Annabel Mtalimanja shared this news during a meeting with political parties on Monday. The Commission gave parties copies of voter lists for the inspection exercise starting Tuesday. Officials discovered unclear pictures, faces that could not be seen, and images of registration cards instead of actual faces. These issues affect 305 voters, making up just 0.0042 percent of all valid records.

People with photo problems can still check their information using fingerprints. The Commission will place special devices next to printed voter lists at every center. Workers will help affected voters confirm their registration status. The verification process runs during three different periods across May. The first period lasts from May 13 through May 15, followed later by May 21 through May 23.
