Medical helpers in Uganda want their friend Dr. Kizza Besigye to leave prison. They wrote a letter to important people like President Museveni asking them to free him. Dr. Besigye is very sick in Luzira Prison.
Dr. Ekwaro Obuku spoke for all the medical helpers. He said Dr. Besigye needs better care than what the prison can give him. The prison only has basic medical help, but Dr. Besigye needs special doctors to make him better.
The army put Dr. Besigye in prison because they said he had guns and bullets he wasn't supposed to have. But on January 31, 2025, the biggest court in Uganda said the army wasn't allowed to put regular people like Dr. Besigye in prison. Even after this decision, Dr. Besigye stayed in prison.
Dr. Besigye became very upset about staying in prison. He stopped eating food to show he was unhappy. When he went to court last Friday, people saw he looked weak and had trouble breathing. He became sicker on Sunday, and the prison guards had to take him to a hospital. They brought him back to prison after the doctors helped him.
