Mkhwebane files case over MKP death threat

UMkhonto weSizwe Party provincial leader Busisiwe Mkhwebane reported death threats to Bronkhorstspruit authorities after recordings emerged of suspended official Abednico Mkhatshwa calling for violence against her. The former Public Protector said the provincial secretary used inflammatory language and accused her of harming party members. Mkhatshwa defended his statements as figurative expressions common in political circles rather than literal threats.

Party administrators suspended Mkhatshwa and convener Charles Nkuna following a meeting in Mbombela. The secretary claimed associates arranged overnight accommodations as part of a scheme to record his private comments after a memorial service. His notice cited misconduct and failure to complete assigned responsibilities alongside the threatening remarks.

Political observer Metjie Makgoba noted the incident reveals structural problems within the organization as it attempts to establish credibility in Mpumalanga. Mkhwebane joined the party after leaving the Economic Freedom Fighters and completing her term as national ombudsman. Internal conflicts may limit expansion efforts before the upcoming electoral contests.
