Mnangagwa Appoints Controversial New Director

Zimbabwe's new police chief pledged his loyalty in a clear message yesterday. "I am ready," Stephen Mutamba told the crowd, thanking Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe and the government. He promised not to let down those who chose him.

Mutamba praised the former leader, Godwin Matanga, saying he learned much from him. He thanked President Emmerson Mnangagwa for picking him to lead. "Your trust will not be in vain," he said. Mutamba aims to build public trust and remove corruption from the police by 2030.

Former chief Matanga smiled as he said goodbye. After his long career, he plans to start farming and run businesses. "It brings me joy to bid farewell," he told his friends and coworkers.

Matanga thanked President Mnangagwa for letting him serve as police chief. He spoke about false stories on social media that said he refused to leave. "The President told me when it was time," Matanga said. He talked about problems like money shortages and sanctions but stayed hopeful.

"A new broom sweeps clean," Matanga said about Mutamba taking over. He knows Mutamba from years of working together. "He can lead us forward," Matanga added.

Many important people came to watch the change in leadership. Minister Kazembe attended. The head of national security came. Army chiefs and government officials filled the room. The spy chief showed up. Everyone gathered to mark this big change in Zimbabwe's police force.
