Mnangagwa dishes 102 cars to restless army chiefs

President Emmerson Mnangagwa distributed 102 vehicles to senior military officers in Harare yesterday amid rising political tensions over succession disputes, and corruption allegations within his government. The 83-year-old leader acted two weeks after Vice President Constantino Chiwenga confronted him with evidence of financial misconduct by government-linked business figures. Approximately 700 Zimbabwe Defence Forces officers in lieutenant colonel, and colonel ranks await promised vehicles, but fewer than one-sixth received them yesterday. Sources indicate roughly 300 military members retired since 2018 without their entitled vehicles, and the limited delivery appears designed to calm military frustrations rather than fulfill contractual obligations to defense personnel.
