Mnangagwa Extends ZDF Commander's Term to 2025

President Mnangagwa has given General Philip Valerio Sibanda one more year as the head of Zimbabwe's military. General Sibanda will now lead the Zimbabwe Defense Forces until November 2025.

The President shared this news in an official government notice. It was released on January 3, 2025.

President Mnangagwa also promoted 26 army officers yesterday, going from lieutenant colonels to colonels. The law allows the President to do this. He can promote officers who have served Zimbabwe with honor.

A top general gave the new colonels their rank badges at a special event. He said they earned their promotions through hard work and loyalty. He told them to keep doing a good job in their new roles.

The general wants the colonels to make positive changes. He encouraged them to bring fresh ideas to the army.

The newly promoted colonels thanked the President. They promised to work even harder for Zimbabwe and its people and to stay loyal to the country and the army's leaders.

One of the new colonels, Cletus Maregere, will now lead a unit that removes old land mines. Another colonel, Norman Mbimbi, said he appreciates the President's trust in them.

The colonels said they will keep supporting the President's vision. They also thanked the head of the army for recommending their promotions to President Mnangagwa.
